Thief of Life
It’s when we’re not looking that you do your best work.
When our guards are down, you creep in and steal our precious gems.
Typically, in the peace of night, you strike, but under the violent sun you also thrive.
Thief of safety.
Thief of comfort.
Bearer of fear.
Bearer of uncertainty.
We were warned about you.
We do the extra work to protect ourselves, protect the ones we love, but you still thrive.
We do our best to mask our sins.
Clean our dirt.
Heal our scars.
Our armor reflects our prayers against you.
Wrapped with scriptures
Your weapons should not prosper,
but that doesn’t stop you.
Who sent you?
Creator of light? Or, the Prince of Darkness?
What did you want? Or, what did they want?
What’s your message to us? Or, what’s their message?
What will it take to stop you?
We have dreams.
We have goals.
We are young.
We need a second chance.
We have a purpose.
What do you want from us?
Why rob us?
Thief of peace.
Thief of joy.
Bearer of despair.
Bearer of loneliness.
But you are fair.
You don’t discriminate.
You attack everyone with equal opportunity.
Some run, but you know where we hide.
Others expect you; welcome you into their homes.
For them, you have a personal connection.
You reminisce with them over drinks about when you were first introduced into their lives.
You are more than guests in their homes.
You are more familiar than that.
The rest of us still fear you.
Try to run from you.
Try to outrun you.
And unknowingly we run into the arms of time
Cradled until we don’t hold that fear anymore
Time hears our cries and answers
Time reveals your message
Time shows us what you want
Bearer of clarity.
Bearer of revelation.
Bearer of healing.
